Before the equipment — the economics

The fuel is a result, not a preference.

Most suppliers ask which generator you want. We ask what your load looks like — then tell you which route actually delivers the cheapest reliable kilowatt-hour on your site.

  • GRIDCheapest — when it is actually there. Killed by outage hours. Twelve outage hours a month turns the cheapest tariff into your most expensive kWh, because you pay for the grid and for the backup.
  • DIESELLowest capex, fastest to site. Killed by fuel price × running hours. Above roughly 4,000 h/year it is usually the most expensive option on the list — and that is the calculation nobody runs before ordering.
  • HFOCheaper fuel, heavier plant. Needs scale, high running hours and a maintenance culture. Below a certain size it never repays the capex or the complexity.
  • GASUsually the cheapest fuel — if you can reach it. CNG or LNG. The decision is not the engine, it is the logistics: distance, volume and trailer turnaround.
  • SOLARZero fuel, high capex, land-hungry. Wins on daytime load. With batteries it shaves the diesel peaks — a hybrid usually beats either option alone, and almost nobody models it.

You get back a comparison in cost per kWh delivered — capex, fuel, maintenance and derating included — not a generator price list. If the answer is "stay on the grid", we will say so, and we will have sold you nothing.

Why altitude and ambient temperature are on that list: a genset derates with both. A 1,000 kVA set at 1,200 m and 40 °C is not a 1,000 kVA set. Buying the nameplate instead of the site rating is the most common — and most expensive — mistake we see.

Dehydration, sweetening and filtration — bringing raw gas to a spec an engine or a liquefier will accept without eating itself.

Ambient vaporisers are cheap — until the engine trips on cold gas at 06:00. We size for the worst hour, not the average.

11 — The recurring business

Spares & consumables.

An engine does not fail because of the engine. It fails because the oil, the filter or the spare was not there.

We supply OEM and equivalent spares and consumables against your service schedule — not against an emergency. Send us the engine hours and the interval and we quote a standing delivery, instead of an airfreight at three times the price.

Where an equivalent part is as good as the OEM item, we will say so and price both. Where it is not, we will tell you that too — a cheap filter on a gas engine is not a saving, it is a top-end overhaul with a delay attached.

Who we are — and are not

We would rather be clear than impressive.

  • NOTAn EPC. We do not build or commission power plants. We supply equipment into your project, or into your contractor's.
  • NOTAn IPP. We do not own or operate generation and we will not sell you power. We have no stake in which fuel wins — which is exactly why you can trust the comparison.
  • NOTA broker. A broker quotes the box you asked for. We run the numbers first — which is why our first reply is usually a question, not a price.
  • NEWA new division. Energy Flow Solutions was formed in 2026. We have no list of delivered projects to show you and we will not invent one. What we do have is a team working on gas-to-power and LNG projects in Nigeria — including gas treatment and small-scale LNG. We will not name clients, and we will not claim their projects as our deliveries.
